SLI Battery Market News

  • June 2023: Schaeffler, a German-based manufacturer of automotive components, announced the launch of new automotive lead acid batteries called ‘TruPower 2W’ The battery used VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) technology to ensure efficient and safe battery functioning.
  • January 2024: The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in India has released the standard operating procedure (SOP) for recycling lead scrap/used lead-acid batteries. The SOP aims to regulate the import, transport, and recycling of lead-bearing waste while minimizing environmental and health risks. According to the SOP published by the Central Pollution Control Board in January, a statutory organization under MoEFCC, all units engaged in scrapping should obtain valid authorization from the relevant State Pollution Control Board or Pollution Control Committee in line with the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016. In addition, stringent packaging requirements are also required for the transporting of these batteries. Imported used lead-acid batteries should also have the caps of cells properly tightened in place during transportation.
