Market Trends of Poland Cold Chain Logistics Industry
Robust demand for poultry meat in Poland
Since the start of 2024, Poland has experienced a notable uptick in poultry meat production. Data from the Polish Statistical Office indicates that between January and May 2024, domestic poultry meat output surpassed 1.4 million tons, marking a 5.4% rise from the same timeframe in 2023. This surge in domestic poultry production can be largely attributed to falling feed prices, which bolstered production profitability.
Furthermore, robust export demand, heightened domestic consumption, and poultry's competitive pricing relative to pork spurred producers to ramp up their output. Given the current market dynamics and the enhanced profitability of poultry farming, a steady uptick in Polish poultry production is anticipated for the remainder of 2024.
In early June 2024, the procurement price for broiler chickens in Poland's domestic market saw a moderate uptick, a trend that had been evident since mid-February 2024. This price rise was bolstered by consistently strong domestic demand for broiler meat, largely due to its competitive pricing against other animal protein sources.
Concurrently, export demand was invigorated by competitive pricing in the EU market and newfound opportunities in non-EU markets, especially after Poland's avian influenza-free status was reinstated in April 2024. This combination of factors exerted upward pressure on broiler chicken procurement prices. While there was an upward trend in prices, they remained below the levels of 2023. Nonetheless, thanks to reduced feed prices, the profitability of chicken production outpaced that of 2023.
FMCG Sector Experiences Notable Growth Amid Easing Inflation
Data from the Central Statistical Office reveals a promising decline in inflation rates for consumer goods and services. In the first quarter of 2024, year-over-year inflation rates stood at 3.6%, 2.6%, and 2.1%. This trend suggests a diminishing impact of price hikes on the economy, offering consumers some relief after facing heightened inflation in prior years.
Recent data highlights that the FMCG sector's value reached PLN 280.1 billion (USD 68.41 billion) for the twelve months ending March 31, 2024, reflecting a 9.3% year-over-year growth. While this marks a slowdown from the 11.1% growth seen in 2023, it's noteworthy that volume dynamics have improved, with a current reading of -0.3% compared to -1.3% in 2023.
Food & Beverage achieved value growth of 9.1% alongside a modest volume uptick of 0.3%. Key drivers in this category were Frozen Food, Dairy, and Non-Alcoholic Beverages.
Home Care & Cosmetics saw a robust value growth of 11.6%, albeit slightly down from 2023. Notable volume surges were observed in Lip Makeup, Color Cosmetics, and Face Care, underscoring strong consumer interest.
