- March 2022 : AkzoNobel Pakistan Ltd announced the establishment of a new manufacturing facility in Pakistan. The integrated paints and coatings factory would be constructed in Faisalabad, Pakistan, near the Allama Iqbal Industrial City. The plant will cover 25 acres and will begin operations in 2023. The new manufacturing plant's rapid production will help AkzoNobel to be more competitive in the market.
- June 2021 : Gobi's Paints becomes the first Pakistani paint company to enter Europe. After 40 years of serving Pakistan with commitment, dedication, and world-class colors, Gobi's has now decided to expand its horizons and bring its expertise to the UK. Gobi's Paints strictly adheres to the highest UKAS and PNAC quality control standards. The company has two manufacturing facilities - both located in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, and the center of industrial activity.

Through this expansion, Asian Paints seeks to bolster its production capacity, aligning with the projected surge in demand for water-borne wood coatings in India.
- December 2022: Sherwin-Williams Company announced the successful completion of its acquisition of the ICA Group. By acquiring the ICA Group, Sherwin-Williams aimed to create a more diversified and competitive wood coatings company with a stronger presence in the European market and a broader range of products and technologies to offer its customers.
- May 2024: IHI Hauzer Techno Coating BV and IHI Ionbond, both subsidiaries of IHI Corporation, partnered to offer a total solution for PVD coating development, coating services, and equipment for PEMFC (proton-exchange membrane fuel cells) and PEMWE (proton exchange membrane water electrolysis).
- March 2024: PPG Industries Inc. announced the launch of the PPG Nexeon 810 coating. This copper-free antifouling solution prioritizes vessel performance, emissions reduction, and sustainability. Thanks to their superior fouling control capabilities, vessels can experience an immediate power boost of up to 10% and a 15% enhancement in operational efficiency.
- April 2022: PPG Industries Inc. acquired Arsonsisi, an industrial coatings company based in Milan, Italy. This acquisition is expected to help the company enhance its business for low-friction coatings and maximize its reach throughout Europe.
- February 2022: Curtiss-Wright Surface Technologies partnered with BioCote to expand its fluoropolymer coating product range and create Fluregiene 200, an antimicrobial coating ideal for many surfaces and environments, including those applicable to a wide range of parts and components such as door handles, elevator buttons, airport seating, and gym equipment.
- Dec 2023: AkzoNobel collaborated with coatingAI to develop software to improve the paint application process and reduce carbon footprint. This technology is called Flightpath. This technology uses equipment settings to reduce defects and overspray. It also improves powder consumption, thereby reducing costs, avoiding rework, and saving time and energy.
- Oct 2022: Asian Paints announced that it would invest INR 2,650 crore (~USD 324.20 million) in order to set up a production facility for vinyl acetate plant monomer in India. The company will benefit from this investment in the area of backward integration.
- March 2023: BASF announced plans to expand its polymer dispersions production capacity by adding a second production line at its site in the Daya Bay Petrochemical Industrial Park in Guangdong, China.
- January 2022: The Bodo Möller Chemie Group and Evonik Industries announced a cooperation agreement for special binders and additives specifically for the paint and varnish industry and textile, leather finishing, and printing inks in East Africa. The collaboration for specialty chemicals will initially be for the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi. The products offered will be matting agents, antistatic additives, rheology agents, defoamers, wetting agents, tackifying agents, dispersants, silicone resins, and silicone-modified binders.
- March 2024: Hempel launched Hempatherm IC. It is a thermal insulation coatings system. It manages Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI). This system is a hydrophobic coating containing Aerogel technology to prevent water ingress and retention on industrial assets.
- January 2024: The Sherwin-Williams Company introduced a new water-based wood coating named Sher-wood Environmentally Adaptable (EA) Hydroplus. This water-based wood coating offers enhanced adaptability to various environmental conditions without the performance drawbacks common with water-based coatings.
- In August 2022, Hogenas divested its binder-jetting AM technology producer (Digital Metal). This position will strengthen the company's work for increased investments and acquisitions in the metal powder space.
- In June 2021, Oerlikon Metco acquired the Italian company Inglass S.p.A, thereby acquiring the company's innovative hot runner system technologies. The acquisition enabled Oerlikon Metco to expand into markets with strong growth potential.
- In September 2022, Hempel launched a new protective coating, Hempablade Edge 171, for leading-edge protection (LEP) on wind turbine rotor blades. The product has the highest rain erosion performance data for a liquid LEP, and some of the lowest dry film thicknesses provide long-term protection against rain erosion and reduce time and costs during application.
- In June 2022, Hempel launched a new product, Hemaprime CUI 275, which is a fast-drying CUI coating. This coating is highly resistant to corrosion and temperature. The product is made to increase production and provide protection against corrosion in the energy segment and oil and gas stations.

- April 2022: The Sherwin-Williams Company acquired the European industrial coatings business of Sika AG. Sika AG manufactures and sells corrosion-resistant coating systems. These coatings are included in the performance coatings segment. They are used in interior and exterior steel infrastructure, bridges, airports and rails, wind and energy, chemicals, power transmission, interior linings for oil and gas tanks, vessels, pipework, and water and wastewater applications.
- July 2022: The Sherwin-Williams Company announced that it had completed its acquisition of the European industrial coatings business of Sika AG. The acquired business will become part of Sherwin-Williams' Performance Coatings Group operating segment.
- August 2021: PPG announced the introduction of PPG HI-TEMP 1027 HD coating, which is a next-generation, ambient-cure coating engineered for challenging corrosion-under-insulation (CUI) conditions. It provides excellent protection against corrosion on pipes, vessels, and construction parts when plants are in operation.
- In February 2022, Element Six UK Ltd collaborated with II-VI Inc. Through this collaboration, II-VI licenses Element Six's intellectual property and necessary equipment would produce high-quality single-crystal diamonds to expand its core competency in diamond technology.
