Spain Leading European Ceramic Tile Manufacturing Market
The Spanish ceramic tile industry recorded a positive 2019 in terms of turnover, which grew by 4% compared to 2018 to reach 3,740 million euros. This included a strong performance in terms of both exports and domestic sales, which continued their upward trend and closed out the year at around 940 million euros (+8%). The manufacturing of ceramic tiles in Spain amounted to some 488 million square meters in 2020, up from around 440 million square meters in 2015. Spain was ranked fifth among the leading ceramic tile manufacturing countries worldwide in 2020 and in Europe, it's followed by Italy, Germany and United Kingdom.
The major producing countries in the EU are Italy, Germany, Spain, France, the UK, Portugal and Austria. Production is also strong in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary, all of which have growing and dynamic ceramic sectors that traditionally export to other EU countries.
