Market Trends of Aircraft De Icing Industry

The Commercial End User Segment Projected to Experience the Highest Market Growth During the Forecast Period

The commercial segment of the market is projected to witness the highest growth during the forecast period, driven by rapidly increasing passenger traffic and aircraft movement at airports. Airlines and airport operators are investing in new technologies that may help reduce the time needed to de-ice the aircraft.

Additionally, airports are investing in new infrastructure, which is expected to facilitate faster de-icing and save on costs. For instance, in January 2023, Turkish Airlines and Aviator Airport Alliance extended their contract for ground handling and de-icing services at Copenhagen Airport until the end of 2023. Aviator Airport Alliance is a full-service provider of aviation services at 15 airports around the Nordic region.

Similarly, in May 2023, Finnair and Airpro agreed to collaborate for two years to provide de-icing services at Helsinki Airport. The deal with Finnair enhances the alliance and allows for the long-term expansion of de-icing activities. Airpro has made considerable investments in greener ground handling, including purchasing contemporary electric de-icing vehicles in Helsinki and developing more efficient operations in collaboration with the airport and other de-icing operators.

North America to Witness Highest Market Growth During the Forecast Period

North America is projected to dominate the aircraft de-icing market and witness the highest growth over the forecast period due to the high-temperature contrast and the high frequency of aircraft movement to different global destinations. Since the region has some of the busiest airports, the need for effective and fast de-icing methods is high. Due to regular storms and adverse weather conditions in the United States, icing is often observed on the aircraft's surface. To tackle such situations, airports and airlines across North America are investing in better de-icing technologies and infrastructure to avoid future delays and inconveniences to passengers. Such investments are expected to propel the market's growth during the forecast period.

For instance, in May 2022, Menzies Aviation, a UK-based aviation logistics business, renewed a ground services contract with Air Canada for Copenhagen Airport in Denmark. Through this contract, Menzies will provide passenger, de-icing, ramp, and cabin cleaning services. Similarly, in November 2023, Aeromag inaugurated its brand-new aircraft de-icing recycling facility at Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) in the United States. The new facility is the most sophisticated in North America. Given the current average number of flights, SYR Airport will only use around 50% of its total capacity, which means that Aeromag can expand its services to neighboring airports.
